Research Design and Statistics in Forensic Science (FRSC 5003)

This lecture series covers important concepts in probability and statistics, and emphasizes the application of quantitative methods in forensic science research design. My hope is that students completing this course will have developed increased competency in

  1. Critical reading
  2. Statistical inference
  3. Exploratory data analysis
  4. Machine learning

and the confidence to learn new statistical concepts and techniques as they arise in their academic and professional careers in forensic science.

Lecture 1: Catalyzing the learning process

Lecture 2: Descriptive statistics and basic probability

Lecture 3: Sampling distributions

Lecture 4: Classical inference I

Lecture 5: Classical inference II

Lecture 6: The craft of research

Lecture 7: Data Visualization

Lecture 8: Modelling and Regression

Lecture 9: An introduction to machine learning
